Q: How do I request a new EIN letter from the government?

A: The easiest way to get a copy of your EIN verification letter is to call the IRS. Follow the below process to obtain a verification letter from the IRS:

  1. Call the IRS at 1-800-829-4933. The hours of operation are 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. local time, Monday through Friday.
    1. Select your language preference
    2. Select the option for "Employer Identification Number"
    3. Select the option for "If you already have an EIN, but you can't remember it"
  2. Tell the IRS agent that you have an LLC and need an EIN Verification Letter (147C)
    1. The agent will ask a few security questions to verify your ownership of the LLC. It's good to have your LLC documents handy for this!
  3. The IRS agent can mail or fax you the 147C Letter
  4. Note: letters sent in the mail will take approximately 4 weeks to arrive. Otherwise if you choose to have your letter sent via fax, the agent will send it to you right away. If needed, you can set up a free fax number at https://hellofax.com.

Q: Where can I get more information about Taxpayer Identification Numbers and request a free one if I do not have one?

A: This IRS web site is a great starting place: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/international-taxpayers/taxpayer-identification-numbers-tin.
